With Sharpsburg's proximity to the city of Atlanta, it's historical heritage, and central location in Coweta County, it offers many fun and unique things to do for newcomer's and locals alike. Below is a list of local attractions we think you will enjoy. 

Senoia Area Historical Society

The Senoia Area Historical Society’s mission is to secure, preserve, and promote the social and cultural history of the community.  In 1976, a group of townspeople joined together to plan festivities to celebrate our country's Bicentennial. Today, the society has monthly meetings open to the public on the second Thursday of the month at 7 pm in our headquarters/museum. We often host guest speakers at these meetings and we always enjoy the evenings. Our fundraising events are community affairs that capture the society’s unique character.  From Our Tea on the Porch to the Annual Auction, the year is full of fun and activity. Click here to view details of fundraising events. We also host many community enrichment opportunities such as storytelling events and genealogical seminars. You do not need to live in Senoia to join the society. Membership is open to everyone

Battle of Brown's Mill

The Battle of Brown's Mill was fought July 30, 1864, in Coweta County, Georgia, during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. Edward M. McCook's Union cavalry, on a daring raid to sever communications and supply lines in south-central Georgia, was defeated near Newnan, Georgia, by Confederate forces under Joseph Wheeler. The failure of McCook's column and a concurrent ill-fated raid by George Stoneman forced William T. Sherman to lay siege to the city of Atlanta.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Chattahoochee Bend State Park showcases a spectacular tract of wilderness in northwest Coweta County. Located in a graceful bend of the Chattahoochee River, the park is a haven for paddlers, campers and anglers. At 2,910 acres, Chattahoochee Bend is one of Georgia's largest state parks, protecting five miles of river frontage. A boat ramp provides easy access to the water, while more than six miles of wooded trails are open for hiking and nature photography. An observation platform provides nice views of the river and forest.

Although most of the park has been left in its natural state, campers have many options for staying overnight within park boundaries. RV owners will enjoy the camping section with sunny pull-through and back-in sites. Tent campers can choose from riverfront platform sites, walk-in sites and traditional developed campsites. The park even offers screened Adirondack-style shelters for families and groups who want a unique camping experience. Bathhouses with hot showers are a short walk from most campsites. Covered picnic shelters may be rented for birthday parties, reunions and other gatherings.

Dunaway Gardens

Opened originally in 1934 as a theatrical training ground for beloved stage performances, Dunaway Gardens is a one of a kind rock and floral garden offering brides and visitors the perfect escape.

Senoia Raceway

South of Atlanta, the racing buzz isn't about Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, or even Danica Patrick; it's about the Senoia Raceway short track! The Senoia Raceway is 3/8ths mile dirt track just west of Senoia, GA on Georgia Highway 16. Racing every Saturday night with Late Models, B-Cadets, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and Bombers. Plus, special events for the kids including Rides in the Race Cars!

Georgia Aquarium

One of the most popular attractions in Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the western hemisphere. It houses tens of thousands of animals including the famous whale shark, beluga whales, otters, and penguins! Several hundred species are represented; all of which reside in 10 million US gallons of marine and fresh water.
